Congress – JD(S) Alliance can defeat BJP in Karnataka
BJP has won Karnataka by poll for the assembly seat from Koppal. Mr. Karadi Sanganna polled 57,000 votes Mr. K. Basavaraj Hitnal of the Congress got 45000 votes and Pradeep Patil of Janata Dal-Secular’s (JD-S) got 19000 votes according to initial reports.
This has clearly indicated that BJP wins due to split in the secular votes. The ruling party winning a by poll is not a surprise. The BJP Government can claim victory for its programmes. Opposition parties can allege money power. But the truth is that majority of the people voted for secular parties.
It is now clear that Janata Dal (Secular) is a force to reckon with. The congress party has to catch the mood of the people and work towards a tie up with JD (S). A coordination at floor level in the assembly can bring good results and make necessary environment among workers to prepare for alliance in the next assembly elections.
A secular alliance in Karnataka can tilt the power balance in the central Government too if the alliance can be realised in the Parliament election.
This is very important since the communal forces are making too much of 2G scam and are in all out efforts to dethrone the UPA. A Consolidation of Anti Communal votes is very much essential to prevent fundamentalist forces to gain in the Indian polity. When compared to corruption which is like TB or Malaria the fundamentalism which is like AIDS is a society killer. While there are many ways to eradicate corruption, defeating the fundamentalists is the only way to defend the country from disintegration.
The leaders of both Congress and Janata Dal should leave their differences to forge an alliance. This is the compulsion of time and is also a survival tactic in Politics.
This is the lesson learnt from this by poll result. The results indicate a victory for the secular thoughts although it means addition of one MLA seat to the deadly communal forces.
